1st Place for LTIP Student Data Analysis Contest

LTIP Student Data Analysis Contest

Chan Yang was selected first place in the Long-Term Infrastructure Performance (LTIP) Student Data Analysis Contest. The contest’s goal was to encourage university students to use data from the Long-Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) web portal, LTPP InfoPave™, or the Long-Term Bridge Performance (LTBP) web portal, LTBP InfoBridge™, for the analysis. The intent was to introduce potential future transportation engineering professionals to using quality performance data, applying that data by using appropriate research methods to derive recommendations, and using that data to make informed decisions.

Permit Vehicle Weigh-In-Motion Data Workshop

Dr. Nassif co-hosted a workshop entitled “Permit Vehicle Weigh-In-Motion Data Fusion to Improve Freight Knowledge” on Thursday, 1/12/2023.  This workshop was sponsored by Highway Traffic Monitoring Committee (ACP-70).  Most departments of transportation (DOTs) and/or local road agencies collect vehicle permit and weigh-in-motion (WIM) data.  Rarely are these two unique data sources fused or used together for a full understanding of route specific freight travel.  However, there are challenges in fusing these data together.  This workshop will provide a forum to present specific data issues and approaches using the data to improve our knowledge of the freight network and roadway loading. The objectives of this workshop are to share information on both permitted vehicles and WIM data and how they can be used to address highway infrastructure needs.  He presented a presentation entitled “Permit Policy in the US and Impact of Permit Vehicles on Bridges”.

Second Annual Truck Size & Weight Stakeholder Forum

On June 18th, 2019, organized 2nd Annual Truck Size & Weight Stakeholder Forum at Rutgers University. Several stakeholders from academia, government, and trucking industry attended to this forum to address the effect of oversize and overweight trucks on the transportation infrastructure including strategies to comply with the MAP-21 Act per the USDOT final report entitled “Comprehensive Truck Size and Weight Limit Study.” The event focused on the following five categories that were identified by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) committee named the “Truck Size and Weight Limits Research Plan” to support the USDOT MAP-21 Act: pavement, bridges, freight, safety, enforcement.
